EXPERIENCES BEFORE AND AFTER THE COVID-19

Image
Before the covid-19 virus spread, we all had lives. Everyone and everything was busy and noisy until the virus came and took it away. Before the lockdown, we had family get-togethers, union meetings, parties, and complete work, school, and social life. At the time of the virus, all of these changes happened quickly and all at once. Everything is starting to return to normal, but we can't be too confident because a cure hasn't yet been discovered. Still, it's best to keep up with the covid-19 safety measures , get the vaccine shots, and get tested with the PCR test for covid-19 or other covid-19 tests. We were affected by the sudden spread of the virus and the total lockdown. But it did help family life, work life, and children who didn't get enough care and attention from their parents. Couples got closer to their kids, and their kids got closer to their parents. There was less stress at work because there weren't as many face-to-face meetings, and kids got to s

IS IT POSSIBLE TO CATCH COVID-19 AFTER RECEIVING A BOOSTER SHOT?

COVID-19 vaccinations can help prevent severe disease, hospitalisation, and death by reducing the risk of infection. Additionally, the  COVID-19  immunizations aid in infection prevention. CoViD-19 can still infect those who have received their vaccines. Immunised individuals are less likely to develop severe symptoms when contracting COVID-19 than unvaccinated individuals. Regarding the more contagious Omicron version of COVID-19, statistics reveal that a second dose of the vaccine is more effective than a single dose. According to medical experts, the best defence against the novel Omicron variation and against all viral variants that cause COVID-19 is one complete vaccination dose followed by a booster shot several months later. The first COVID-19 mRNA vaccine was approved on December 11, 2020. Since then, studies have revealed that unvaccinated people have a five-fold increased chance of infection and a ten-fold increased risk of hospitalisation or death due to COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2

BLOOD DONATION DURING COVID-19: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES.

Image
Blood transfusions are an integral part of healthcare in all medical facilities. With the dawn of the pandemic, the adequate and safe availability of blood to meet patient needs became a significant concern. The fear of getting infected with the virus while transfusing blood was a huge problem. Blood transfusion centres in many parts of the country faced difficulties, thus generating a shortage of blood services and blood donors. New policies were implemented, like providing spacious rooms, free blood screening, and keeping the beds at a distance were to this effect. Transfusions of blood and blood products save lives every year. There is a need for blood and plasma every day to assist covid-19 patients, cancer patients, new mothers and babies, people with immune inadequacies, and people who need surgery. Currently, there’s no evidence anywhere in the world that coronavirus or other respiratory viruses can get transmitted through blood transfusion. Nevertheless, there are some advant

ROLES OF FRONTLINE HEALTHCARE WORKERS IN CURBING THE PANDEMIC

Image
Healthcare workers globally have risen to the challenge of treating covid-19 patients, seemingly at a massive cost to their health and well-being. There has been a growing awareness of the mental health effect of the pandemic on frontline workers and the need for psychosocial support for them. Throughout the pandemic, essential workers have made significant contributions to the basic functions of the economy and society. Nonetheless, not all workers face the same level of infection risk. Some of these workers are “frontline,” meaning they must perform their duties in person, whereas others can work from home. Frontline health workers include nurses, doctors, and lab scientists. Healthcare providers are fighting covid-19 amidst fast-changing methods for dealing with the current crisis. They face difficulties in dealing with the unforeseen pandemic because of their unpreparedness, the virus’s frequent changes, and the challenges of performing their duties due to a lack of protocol, acc

What PCR Test Do I Need for Travel?

Image
As of Monday, October 4, the UK had only one country on its red list of high-risk destinations, while the others were deemed safe to visit. For double-jabbed travellers returning to the UK, the Covid test is no longer required. Before, during, and after a journey, Covid testing can be conducted. Are  PCR ,  Antigen , Or Lateral Flow Tests Needed for Travel? To identify the virus’s genetic material known as RNA, doctors use the PCR test, which stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction and takes only seconds to perform. Depending on the requirements of your destination, you may be required to demonstrate results that have been created within 48, 72, or 96 hours. The lateral flow antigen test, which uses a swab and a solution on a paper strip to provide a result in 30 minutes, is another option for those in a hurry. This test may be performed at home and is less expensive. As a rule, countries will accept an antigen test completed by a recognized company. In contrast, others may waive the re

The United Kingdom is ready to remove all remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions later this week, allowing all travellers to enter without a passenger locator form or a negative coronavirus test, regardless of vaccination status.   According to the Transportation Secretary, the new travel restrictions will take effect at 4 a.m. on Friday. These adjustments are feasible owing to our vaccination rollout and enable greater flexibility in time for Easter.   Adults who have not been fully vaccinated in the US must submit a negative coronavirus test result, which is no more than two days before departure and acquire a PCR test within the first two days after reaching. Regardless of vaccination status, the passengers must fill out a passenger locator form no later than three days before arrival.   Even as coronavirus cases rise, the country's travel restrictions are poised to loosen. According to government data, nearly 440,000 persons in the United Kingdom tested positive in the last sev

THE OMICRON VARIANT IN THE UK

Image
The world is still mainly in the dark about the new mutation of the widespread Corona Virus known as the   Omicron Variant . Reports from the World Health Organisation confirmed that the Omicron variant’s spread is rising. The unvaccinated are still at a considerable risk of contracting the virus and we’re not sure about the level of protection enjoyed by the vaccinated.  Considering that the Delta variant is still widespread and wreaking havoc on the economic situations of many countries, one has to be careful and maintain all health measures to stay afloat.  What we know so far about the Omicron Variant in the UK The World Health Organisation received the report of the Omicron Variant on 24th November 2021, stating the presence of the new mutation in South Africa. Research has since continued to verify symptoms of the variant.  The UK has recorded cases of the Omicron variant. The variant is still new, and it is still proving difficult to detect early signs.  Measures are currently
